Neighborhood watch: An Island Creek township resident said a neighbor reported seeing someone wheeling their 2014 blue and gold Husqvarna dirt bike off of their porch and up the road, Wednesday. The owner said he’d seen a silver Ford parked at the end of the road before the theft and said it was gone and believed it had been involved. Deputies checked the area where the vehicle had been parked and located a toolbox in the weeds, and the owner also found a piece of paper with a name and number on it that deputies called. The number tracked to the landlord of a Weirton resident who’s been working in Morgantown and told them his silver Fusion vehicle had been stolen several days before. The dirt bike theft was captured on surveillance footage, deputies said.

No good deed: A Rayland man reported the theft of his 2012 Ford Focus in December, Tuesday. The man told deputies he’d originally loaned it to a former co-worker so he could visit family for the holidays after the man’s own car broke down, and said he’d told him he’d return it on New Year’s Day but he never did. The man initially asked if he could buy the car, but when the owner suggested bringing it back first so they could talk money he never did and stopped taking calls. He said his only contact since has been the traffic citations he’s received from speed cameras, the most recent being in Girard, Ohio, some of which he said he paid to avoid affecting his own license. He said he’d tried reporting the theft to several law enforcement agencies without success, and said it’s difficult for him because he travels out of state for extended periods due to his job. He warned deputies the man who has his car regularly carries a gun.

Piling on: Trespassers were spotted on the Yorkville Intermodal Terminals property in Warren Township, Tuesday. Deputies and plant personnel who searched the property couldn’t find them, but they did locate a pile of large conduit and copper wire tossed over a wall bordering an old section of railroad tracks in an overgrown area, which deputies said makes for “an ideal location for nefarious activities, out of site of the public” and said after inspecting the area, “It appears as though (they) were gathering copper in this location so as to remove it from the property in bulk.” The items were recovered and moved.

Booked: Charles Myers, 35, 102 McKinley Ave., Steubenville, violating a protection order, Tuesday; David Crowe III, 37, 803 Bradenshaw Ave., East Liverpool, failure to comply, Tuesday.

Nibbler: An Oregon Avenue resident said she was sitting on her living room sofa when a woman walked over and made several attempts to strike her, Tuesday. She said when she fended off the attack the other woman fell down, so she got up and walked to the other side of her living room to get away. She said her alleged attacker “then crawled to her leg, began to squeeze her leg and attempted to bite her.” The other woman apologized and said she was upset.

Time to go: A Grandview Avenue resident wanted police to remove her live-in boyfriend from their shared residence, Tuesday, and became irate and berated police when they told her they couldn’t because the man had established residency. They said she went inside and shut the door behind her when informed she couldn’t get her way. The man told them she’d been “throwing objects at him, so he pushed her away.” He didn’t want to leave at that point so police told him it was in his best interest to stay away from her until he leaves for work.

Offensive: Jamie Smearman, 34, 419 Darlington Road, Steubenville, second offense OVI, driving under suspension for OVI and failure to comply, Tuesday. Police said Smearman was taken into custody after she allegedly ran at least six stop signs in the downtown area. When she finally pulled over, officers said they detected a strong odor of alcohol on her person and claim Smearman admitted consuming alcohol and said they found an empty bottle of brandy on the passenger floorboard, but she refused to take the breathalyzer test.

Oops: Callers reported a pickup loaded with garbage entering Beatty Park, Tuesday. Police located the truck parked near the middle restroom area and spoke with the owner, advising her that dumping is not permitted. She left.

Shots reported: Numerous callers reported hearing as many as seven shots fired in the vicinity of Grandview Avenue and Adams Street, Tuesday. Police said they searched the area but were “unable to locate a primary scene or any evidence” of guns being fired.

Drugs: A woman who was overdosing in the 700 block of North Seventh Street required two intravenous does and two nasal doses of Narcan to be resuscitated, Tuesday. Police said the woman was “clearly under the influence of opiates.” The man who called for help said he found her in that drug-induced condition. JMHA security advised police they wanted him off the property.

Noise a problem: A South Fifth Street resident claimed her neighbor had been harassing her, Tuesday. The woman said the argument started over a loud radio and said she’d asked the neighbor several times to turn it down but she refused. To calm the situation, the responding officer had asked the neighbor to wait inside until they’d spoken with the first woman, but when he knocked on her door, he said she “refused to come speak with me.” He told the other woman to stay away from the neighbor and call back if things escalate.

Knocking: A man who had been banging on the door to a residence in the 400 block of Maxwell Avenue told police all he wanted was his work uniform, Tuesday. His wife gave it to him after police told her what he wanted.

Code issue: A notice of violation was sent to the owner/occupant of a property at 1116 Hillary Square, high grass/weeds.

Snap: An Oak Grove resident reported a man taking photos of children in the area, Tuesday. She said her grandchildren were swimming in the rear of the residence when she saw a man driving a white SUV “possibly taking pictures of them.” She said when she asked him what he was doing, he told her he was looking for “808.”

Sawed off: Police were told sometime within the last week catalytic converters were stolen from six vehicles parked in the 600 block of Adams Street, Tuesday. Several used blades were spotted under the vehicles, they said.

Booked: Ciara Hawkins, 27, 318 S. Fourth St., Steubenville, failure to appear, Tuesday.

Booked: Shane Riffle, 44, Sterling, Ohio, felony drugs, Tuesday.
